Friendly Matches

Overview

Friendly matches are also known as Practice Matches. The results don't count. Friendly matches are an opportunity for players to hone their skills in a real match environment, whilst coaches can try out new strategies in a low risk setting.

Friendly matches are more difficult to organise than regular matches because teams have to

  1. Find an opposition team to play against

  2. Book a pitch to play on

  3. Organise a referee for the match.

Book a Pitch

Glen Eira FC has a limited number of pitches available to be booked for friendly matches. To book a pitch:

If you have a confirmed booking and the match is *postponed or cancelled* for any reason please notify us asap. Failure to do so potentially wastes pitch preparation efforts by the club and unnecessarily blocks other teams who might have wanted the booking.

Organise a Referee

All matches need a referee.  Matches without referees usually descend into bickering contests.

  • Option A) For U8-U13 matches, and sometimes for older teams, ask the Budding Refs Coordinator to try to appoint a suitable Budding Ref. The Club will cover the Budding Ref's fees directly.   Budding Refs Coordinator

  • Option B) Book an FV Referee.
Seven days notice is required. Glen Eira FC will cover the FV Referees Fees - Friendly Matches for up to 3 matches per year.     Book FV Referee
